Virtual product development for home appliances – increasing efficiency while mastering functional requirements

 

Improving the efficiency of household appliances is not just required to maintain the “Energy Label,” but is increasingly important to satisfy end-user expectations. Manufacturers need to warrant the compliance to strict regulatory criteria while ensuring energy efficiency and the safety of their products.

In this On-Demand Webinar, through the use of a 3D multidisciplinary simulation software tool, we demonstrate the possibilities of virtual product development and simulation for an oven and a refrigerator model.

Design engineers of appliances like ovens, refrigerators, washers and dryers need a deep understanding of the heat transfer phenomena affecting the energy efficiency of their devices. But they also need to dive into the complex interplay of function, safety and comfort. Through simulation, a comprehensive and deep insight into the various aspects and corresponding mechanisms can be gained. These need to include flow physics, acoustics and dynamics.

Only then can manufacturers ensure that – for example, packaging or stored products in refrigerators – do not get wet under high humidity, or that adequate thermal shielding is provided during the baking process in an oven.

Simulation and design exploration offers the opportunity to gain detailed understanding of the underlying phenomena, investigate them and to develop better products, faster – through virtual prototyping.
